QUEEN VICTORIA TREE, SIMMONS REEF, BLACKWOOD.

PLANTED IN 1887.

A Portrait of Queen Victoria that used to hang in the Blackwood Mechanics Hall.

In June 1901 a Portrait of the late Queen Victoria was presented to the Mechanics Institute by Mr. R. Hall J.P. which was beautifully framed.  It was 3ft x 2ft 6 inches and was quite an ornament to the committee room where it was hung.

Queen Victoria Tree – Simmons Reef

The Queen Victoria Tree was planted in 1887 by the Simmons Reef school children to mark the occasion of the 50 years of Queen Victoria’s reign from 1837 – 1887.  This big pine tree was up on the hill, a short walk on the Easter Monday Track from the Garden of St. Erth. The Hill was called One Tree Hill, as it was the only tree standing and could be seen from Blackwood.
